The first actress of Venezuelan television Maricarmen Regueiro finally returns to the public light, in an interview granted to journalist Luis Olavarrieta, after 21 years of media absence. "Señora", "El desprecio" and "Carísima" are some of the telenovelas with which she won the hearts of the audience in countries such as Peru and Argentina.

Her abrupt farewell to television was due to her pregnancy and the subsequent raising of her children. "The life of a mother is complicated, but you have to do it, because they are your children and you have to take care of them (…) I always put all my energy into one thing," she says. Although she always had the opportunity to return, she confesses that she was eager for new roles, to go back to doing what she is most passionate about: acting. However, he was a bit saddened by the treatment given to actors and actresses with a certain trajectory, as opposed to new and young talents.

About her return to the public eye after this "pause", Maricarmen Regueiro said that "I was contacted for a play, and after reading it, I loved the character". Although she hesitated at first, she ended up asking herself "Why not? If I have the time right now, why not?", and took the step to participate again in the theater.

In a joking tone, she emphasizes that people recognize her more outside the country than in Venezuela. However, she recognizes that this break from acting also served to protect her private life and her family. "I preferred to keep quiet for many reasons… Someday those reasons will be known (…) Anything can happen to all of us".

My home is Venezuela

Maricarmen Regueiro is amused by the comments of people who say she left the country. When it was her turn to work abroad, she kept her suitcase ready for her return because "I couldn't wait to come home".

Despite having an excellent professional career, he says he keeps his ego in check: "I had the privilege that all the productions I was in were successful," and he attributes that to the good work of the writers, above the performance of the actors. "Ego doesn't let you live or relate to others (…) I don't feel more than anyone else".

When asked about the telenovela that most satisfied her, she said that "all of them gave me joy, all of them gave me good partners. Yes, there are roles that cost you more than others, that are more difficult, but I had the energy for that. Each one had its wonders". When she talks about RCTV, she is overcome with nostalgia. "It was nice to arrive and see those great figures waiting for you. I was deeply fortunate," Maricarmen Regueiro recalls.

"I keep going forward with my family, with a lot of strength and a lot of hope that things will improve for everyone, because we deserve it. Things have happened to us that have made us reflect and feel that we are very vulnerable, that fame is nice, but sometimes it has a double edge. When you are famous, people can say things that may not be true, but there is no one to disprove them".
