Real Madrid Critical of his team, but still has faith
NGEL RIVERO A fter suffering an embarrassing 7-3 defeat at the hands of rivals Atletico , Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane was surprisingly upbeat and feels his side will have a good season nonetheless.
Despite being four goals down after just 27 minutes and never really threatening the Atleti goal until the latter stages, Zidane hasnât lost faith in his men.
“We will be motivated,” Zidane told the press. “I have no doubts about that.

“Our season is going to be good. I am convinced
“We canât be happy with today. But with everything else, Iâm convinced that I have a team that will compete very well.
“It doesnât worry me but it hurts. When you lose⦠you donât play to lose.
“But itâs happened and we canât look back. It was a bad game.”
When trying to explain the manner of the defeat, Zidane pinpointed a lack of intensity.
“What happened is that we started the game very badly,” Zidane went on.
“After eight minutes we were 2-0 down and there was no response from us to try and change something
“The first half was difficult
“We lacked everything. Above all intensity which is necessary at this level.”
In terms of some individual performances, Zidane didnât want to pinpoint anyone in particular, instead focussing on the collective.
“They [Atleti] scored seven goals, that canât happen,” Zidane stated.
“The players also know that, and are disappointed. They arenât failing me.
“Thereâs no need to look at it again. Itâs a pre-season game and we need to be calm.
“[Eden] Hazard didnât play badly. Everyone did. We got it wrong, especially at the start
“They were better at everything, and thatâs it. Thereâs nothing more to say.”
